Good evening, I wanted to try out a new film and decided on the ADOX HR-50. I actually wanted to develop it myself, but I’ve just seen in the data sheet that it’s not recommended to develop it with Rodinal. Does anyone know why that is, why another developer would be better, and what would happen if I developed it with Rodinal anyway? I’d really appreciate a reply. Best regards, Moritz The data sheet

The base film for the HR-50 has been specially processed to achieve this speed for photographic use, which required considerable effort. To achieve the specified characteristics, it is therefore advisable to use a developer specifically designed for this material. It is likely that, with Rodinal, you will either fail to achieve the specified speed or that the result will be rather grainy. In any case, you will most likely not be able to exploit the film’s full potential with Rodinal.
