Lukas
Hello everyone,
My name is Lukas and I’m new to this forum. I own a Kaiser VP 6000 enlarger and I’d like to make black-and-white prints. The enlarger is fitted with a Meopta Anaret S 4.5/50 lens.
Now to my problem:
When I look at the manual and check the enlarger’s enlargement scale, a 50mm lens and a 36mm film format should give an approximate maximum enlargement of 10. However, with the lens holder fully extended towards the image plane, I only get a maximum sharp enlargement of about 3.5.
I’ve already had a look through the forum here; the lens retaining ring is fitted correctly, so there is a distance of 50mm between the 35mm film and the lens. If I set the magnification scale to 10 and hold the lens even closer to the stage by hand, I get a sharp image at the specified magnification. However, the lens cannot be secured any closer to the image stage.
I’m slowly running out of ideas, and before I buy another lens, I wanted to ask for your advice here first.
Many thanks in advance and best regards,
Lukas
UPDATE: The problem has been resolved. Contrary to my assumption that the objective stage had been moved right up to the image plane, this was not the case. The two guide rods that move the objective stage were very stiff, which meant the stage could not be raised any higher. By cleaning and greasing the rods, this is now possible without any problems and a sharp enlargement of up to a factor of over 10 is now achievable! Many thanks anyway!

Hi Lukas,
For a 50mm lens, you’ll need a ‘recessed’ lens plate – one where the lens is offset upwards, bringing it closer to the film. The one currently fitted is designed for longer focal lengths (80mm and above for medium format).
