[attachment=3472][attachment=3473]Hello there!
I’m currently getting back into SLR photography after a 35-year break. Unfortunately, my dad simply threw everything he had away back in the day :-(
I’ve now bought a Meopta Opemus 6 and it looks great... however, despite some research, a few questions remain:
1 – There was a frosted glass pane in the filter drawer. According to the manual, a ‘matte screen’ *can* be fitted here.
What is the purpose of this pane? Is it a) for light scatter, b) to protect against heat (according to one article, the Opemus has a heat-protective glass), or c) something else entirely?
The assembly is (from the top)
- Opal lamp
- Clear glass pane
- Filter drawer (with the mysterious frosted pane)
- Condenser
- Negative stage
- Bellows
- Objective lens
Is the clear glass pane perhaps for heat protection????
2 - The negative stage has two glass plates (the top one with an anti-Newton effect). Various negative masks were also available for the Opemus 6 (unfortunately, they seem to be quite rare...). So I made myself a mask for half-frame with guide rails, based on a template for the 35mm mask.
I’m just surprised that negative masks with guides were never available for this model... yet they’re really necessary, as the two pins that are supposed to do the job are only at the top, and when the negative strip is nearing the end, it becomes difficult to keep it straight...
Is there any reason not to replace the glass panes with this mask???

John

That looks like a diffuser. You’re in luck – parts like that are usually missing.
In my opinion, the Opemus 6 doesn’t need any additional light diffusion thanks to its dual condenser. However, the diffuser can soften the generally harder condenser light a little or help prevent overexposure if necessary.
Just give it a go!
