Over the last few months, I have tested the above Ilford 6×6 medium-format films with the above developers, using similar subjects.
Ilford Delta 400 produces excellent results with HC-110 at a dilution of 1:60 and for approx. 14–15 minutes (stir continuously for the first minute, then tilt the tank three times every three minutes). It’s simply great for enlargements. HC-110 develops the film with absolutely consistent results. For all the photos, I only needed to test the exposure time on one frame; for all the other photos on the same roll, the exposure time was the same. Very nice.
Ilford Delta 400 in D-76 also produces excellent results. The development was carried out at a 1:1 ratio using the time recommended by Ilford. As I find HC-110 more practical for my needs and it is also cheaper per roll of film developed, I’ll stick with HC-110.
Ilford Ortho 80 comes out very nicely in D-76. Developed 1:1 using the time specified by Ilford. In HC-110, the shadow detail isn’t as good as with D-76. I also find the contrast a bit too high in HC-110. However, as I find the Ortho very interesting, I’ll be developing it in D-76.
