Hi there.
After seeing some photos taken by a colleague using Adox CHS 100 II sheet film, I thought to myself: I’ll give this a go as roll film.
Maybe it’ll become my new favourite film…
So: I ordered five rolls and tested a couple of them, developing them with XT-3 at ratios of 1+1 and 1+3
. Well, what did I unfortunately discover?
The roll films have faults.
The film leader isn’t always correct.
When loading it into the developing tank or spiral, it’s difficult to ‘tear off’ the backing paper from the film.
It also doesn’t seem to be wound properly onto the roll, because quite a lot of the backing paper comes loose when I take it out of the round plastic box (which I do like).
The paper used to hold the roll film in place is difficult to remove.
I suppose I could live with that.
It just doesn’t seem to be a genuine ISO 100 film.
Even at ISO 50, there’s hardly anything visible in the shadows on the negative during exposure for the shadows using Zone III.
Could it be that the CHS II and XT-3 aren’t compatible?
As I’d like to switch to environmentally friendly chemicals, that’s it for me with the CHS II.
What a shame.
