A portrait is more than just a depiction of a face. It is an encounter, a challenge, an invitation, a reflection of society, a measurement of the body, a play on personality, a dialogue, a puzzle, a glimpse into the soul, or eye contact.

Four artists across four different categories will be honoured by a high-calibre international jury, produced by
recom-art
and presented in a curated group exhibition at Projektraum | PhotoWerkBerlin in November 2015. The winners may keep their works.

It is about the naturalness of the scene, the photographer’s gaze and that of the?

The Staged Portrait
This can be a single image or a series, taken in a studio or outdoors, where a vision?
or story is staged. All aids in front of and behind the camera are permitted. The artistic vision is what counts.?
The Classic Black-and-White Portrait
By this we mean a black-and-white portrait that brings out the personality of the subject without the use of major effects. Studio lighting or flash are permitted.?
Portrait & Location
In this category, the social or physical environment is included to portray the subject’s personality. The image should show the real conditions and not be manipulated.

with up to 10 entries in a single PDF document (resolution 1200 x 800 px, landscape format, max 10 MB). Anyone can enter who submits a focused and high-quality body of photographic work in one or more portrait categories. (Each image must be labelled with the category for which it is being submitted.) There will be one winner for each category. The source material may be analogue or digital. The entry fee is €10.00.
