This exhibition celebrates the craft of photography with its myriad historical and individual techniques, which are employed by artists today and possess a unique character.
In 1930, Walter Benjamin referred to the then relatively young medium of photography when he lamented that the aura of the artwork was fading in the age of technical reproducibility.
Today, in the digital age, we must reassess his assessment. It is precisely the analogue, historical and photographic processes that exude their own charm. In contrast to the unlimited possibilities of digital reproduction, the artists in the exhibition create unique, handmade pieces from light-sensitive material.
The following analogue and historical processes are presented through fascinating images:
ambrotype, analogue silver gelatin print, cyanotype, emulsion lift on laid paper, hand-coloured photography, pinhole photography, photoemulsion, photogram, photorelief, manipulated Polaroid.
