TomDahmen Hi, I’ve been taking digital photos for years and, for the last six months, I’ve been dusting off my dad’s old darkroom. I’ve sorted out a lot of beginner’s mistakes with my retired dad’s guidance, and now I’m really enjoying it. But: I can get decent results with the glass plate, but placing the streaks and then putting the glass plate on top is a right pain. Alternatively, I’ve stuck the streaks down at the corners with tape; that worked better, but was time-consuming. Am I just too daft, or is there a secret trick, a mask or a frame that even my dad doesn’t know about? I can’t imagine that labs used to position streaks on paper by hand?! Sorry for the mixed case; I’m currently only using my tiny mobile keyboard Regards
Wolf_XL ...Paterson, for example, makes a frame like that... for http://www.fotoimpex.de/shop/fotolabor/paterson-kontaktprinter-rahmen-24x30cm-fuer-filmstreifen-35mm.html
TomDahmen Yeah, cool – two replies straight away. The frame looks better to me than the clear sleeves, but I’ll give the sleeves a go first.
Urnes Honestly, I’ve got both the contact frames and the negative sleeves. But laziness usually wins out, because you have to go to the trouble of fitting the negatives into the frames first. With the sleeves, you just pop them onto a sheet of 24x30 glass and you’re done. It couldn’t be simpler. € Regards, Sven.
Rolf-Werner I use the clear negative sleeves too, including for archiving. I’ve never had any problems with them so far. And they’re just brilliant for contact copying :) ? Rolf
Morte For the sake of completeness, however, it should be noted that the tip regarding clear sleeves refers to the more expensive acetate sleeves, not the cheap polypropylene ones. The latter tend to cause the image to appear slightly blurred.
piu58 ‘Clear negative sleeves’? If you want prints of exceptional sharpness that you can examine under a strong magnifying glass, you mustn’t use negative sleeves. If the films are flat, it’s no problem to place a glass plate on top of them. If they aren’t flat, I roll the films ‘backwards’ for a while.
Ewald Yeah, cool – two replies straight away. The frame looks better to me than the clear sleeves, but I’ll give the sleeves a go first. € The clear sleeves are brilliant – contact sheets done in a flash € See you Ewald
