Hello, I publish negative development data on my website: www.haun-media.de/tiltdesign-faq. This includes: film, format, developer, times, temperature, agitation rate and preview images, as well as my subjective impression of the results. I have gathered the data from the internet and contributed my own. One particularly good website is: www.filmdev.org tiltdesign-faq is very popular. Hello, ? It’s always tricky to recommend a camera. You should be able to find something suitable for 500 euros.? Interchangeable lenses, fixed focal length, heavy camera, light camera, with a light meter, developing your own prints, scanning, etc.?! At the moment I’m shooting with a Bronica SQ-A: http://haun-media.de/tiltdesign/fotoapparate/bronica-sq-a I’m really happy with it. But the camera isn’t light. Before that, I used to take photos with a Rolleicord Va Type II: http://haun-media.de/tiltdesign/fotoapparate/rolleicord-va-type-ii . MTB tours with the camera were no problem. Both are available second-hand for around 300 EUR on eBay. A twin-lens Rolleiflex is a dream. I once saw one on offer for around 500 EUR. Hasselblad is brilliant too, of course. You can definitely take good photos with the cameras mentioned. I’d start with an affordable camera. Especially at the beginning, you often find yourself wanting to switch. Hi Oh, I’d like to have my say on cameras too. Although I suppose everyone has their own opinion and their favourite models. So, after a 25-year break from proper photography, I went straight out and bought a Mamiya RB67. They used to cost the equivalent of a Golf 1 when they were new. Well, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit. Anyway, they were veeeery expensive back then. I paid 180 plus shipping, customs and fees. All in all, 270 €. The bottom line: great camera, superb photos, dead heavy, unwieldy, not suitable for snapshots, large second-hand market, the light seals usually need replacing (easy to do yourself), etc. Not really suitable for beginners like me! I’m just stubborn, so I had to see it through. And the learning phase is probably over now. And you can forget about MTB tours with this thing! Now I’ve bought an Agfa Isolette for €20 at auction, for when I’m out and about. Hopefully it works and I’ll enjoy it. What I’m definitely getting next is a Pentax 67!

You can get lucky, too. I bought my beloved Rolleiflex Automat II for 130 euros at an eBay auction. With cameras this old, you definitely need to invest in maintenance and repairs. For example, the shutters often get sticky, which in my case means the slow shutter speeds are no longer accurate (they’re twice as long). But that’s not too bad; I simply close the aperture by one stop. You can get round a faulty (built-in) light meter by using an external (and usually much better) light meter. You wouldn’t use a medium-format camera for snapshots anyway. So everything’s fine! In my case, I’m enjoying the fabulous image quality of the Zeiss lens. And that on a camera from 1939! That’s enough to make some digital devotees’ ears prick up. There are plenty who, as a matter of natural law, declare digital cameras to be the best ever. It’s all nonsense. :)
