Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a cross-section focusing screen for my Pentax MZ-5.
Pentax/Ricoh don’t officially make one for this model, but apparently there used to be some available from third-party manufacturers.
(Response time from Ricoh Germany: 24 hours? = Commendable!)
Does anyone here have any idea which manufacturer(s) made these focusing screens?
I’ve already tried replacing it on a faulty MZ-50. It’s all very simple!
I’m fed up with having to more or less ‘guess’ the distance with my old lenses.
Thanks
Marcus

Give it a go! Beattie Interscreen. That’s always been the Rolls-Royce of viewfinders. The price reflects that, of course. It’s probably cheaper to get an LX with a suitable ground glass screen. If you’re unlucky, the camera’s focus screen will need recalibrating as well.
Regards, Sven.

Hello Marcus,
Would the one from the MZ-S perhaps fit? You can find them, for example, at "focusingscreen.com", a Taiwanese company that manufactures focusing screens with focusing aids for a wide range of cameras, particularly AF and DSLR models. Screens manufactured by brand-name manufacturers are likely to be custom-made to fit. I’m grateful to Carl Zeiss Fotooptik for this tip.

Hi
Yes, I’d already found the focusingscreen.com website.
But the screen for the MZ-s costs a cool €64 plus postage and customs duty.
For that money, though, you could buy a few potential donor units on eBay and strip them down.
The only question then is which donor units are suitable.
One possibility might be the LX.
Are there any other potential donor units? Any candidates?

Me again
I followed up with Ricoh again at lunchtime today
And customer service replied straight away by email
So. The Pentax MZ-m has the split-image focusing screen I was looking for.
Does any of you have an MZ-m – preferably a faulty one – that I could use for spare parts?
Otherwise I’ll have to have a look on eBay.
But I’d rather not take a working camera apart.
