Hello everyone,
I’ve set up a darkroom again after twenty years and always thought the lamp back then was red. Now I’ve bought one – a Kindermann – with various attachments. The Ilford Multigrade IV RC De Luxe pack now says: ‘Light brown protective filter’. Now I’m not sure whether I can use my red filter 2048 or the orange filter 2028?
Does anyone have any advice?
Best regards
Urnes
Hi Sepp,
The orange filter will probably work with the Multigrade too; it’ll be a bit lighter. Red always works! But it’s darker.
Otherwise, just do a veiling test. Cover half of a scrap of paper and leave it under the darkroom light for a few minutes. Then develop it. If the paper stays white, everything’s fine.

Hello Sven,
Thank you very much! I’ll do the veil test.
Best regards

You should pre-expose the paper strips before carrying out the veiling test. Otherwise, they will receive too little light compared to the actual print, and the test result will be inaccurate.
