The large-format camera on a viewing bench remains the standard of choice in professional architectural photography, whether digital or analogue. Only with this equipment can perspectives be corrected, planes of focus set and converging lines balanced through appropriate adjustments, without compromising on quality or wasting time in post-production.
But what is the best way to photograph architecture?
In this workshop, we will learn how to use one of the most advanced digital view cameras. We will be working ‘on location’ in Berlin Kreuzberg with the Linhof 679 and a Phase One back. Alongside the technical aspects, compositional strategies will be explained. On the first day, we will use example photographs to see what high-quality final results look like and gain insights into the insider knowledge of a professional. We will then familiarise ourselves with the view camera and learn how to apply various adjustments. On the second day, we will explore interesting architectural sites in Kreuzberg. Under professional guidance, we will photograph our chosen subject. At the end, we will discuss our photographs and evaluate them together.
For participants working with analogue equipment, there is a free 30-minute debriefing session on 30 August at 12:00.
