Hello,
On my Kaiser enlarger (VCP 6000), the height adjustment is difficult to move upwards (the crank slips), but it works fine when moving downwards, of course. I’ve already taken it apart and cleaned it, but that didn’t help. The four screws at the back are already tightened properly.
Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can try?
Regards,
Hendrik

Hi Hendrik,
I don’t have any brilliant ideas either; according to the manual, if you’re having friction problems, you should tighten the four screws evenly.
If that doesn’t help, you’ve had the thing open, so you should know what’s inside; just replace the part that looks most likely to be worn out. You should be able to get spare parts from Kaiser, or try bidding on a really cheap one on eBay without too many accessories and swap out the parts.

Yes, I’ve taken it apart, but there doesn’t really seem to be any sign of wear. The screws and the plate they’re pressing down are forcing the crank axle—with its roller-like bulges—against or into the recess in the column, so it could be the crank axle at most, but it actually looks fine; at most, it might have seized up and is slipping as a result.

Hello,
Try degreasing it (e.g. with a high-quality brake cleaner). Perhaps it simply lacks the right ‘grip’.
Kind regards,

Hi Hendrik,
?
The part doesn’t necessarily have to be hardened or worn, because there must also be a guide on the opposite side of the column, either with sliding blocks or rollers; if it were undersized there, the roller wouldn’t have any grip either. And I’m not sure about tightening the adjusting screws any further, because once they’re tight, they’ll just come loose.
Why not ask the Kaisers if they have any spare parts, or perhaps an exploded view so you can see how it’s put together.
It might take a while, but you always get a proper answer from the Kaisers.

I’ve emailed Kaiser; the person in charge is on holiday until 22 August. Once I’ve received a proper reply, I’ll let you know.
