The 50mm lenses are usually fitted so that they are recessed (curved upwards). If this is incorrect, you’ll notice it straight away because you won’t be able to focus.

The circuit board can be mounted either way round. Which is the correct one depends on the lens used, the position of the principal plane and its focal length. You’ll just have to try it out. I suspect the recessed mounting will be more suitable. Just insert a negative, turn off the light and focus, then adjust the magnification scale. For some lenses, a flat circuit board is sufficient. If you can’t find one anymore, you can have one made relatively easily based on the dimensions of the curved one (aluminium, brass or steel – it doesn’t matter). Important: the thread is M 39 x 1/26'', not M 39 x 1. Be sure to give the lens to the mechanic to try out; he may need to re-cut the M 39 x 1 slightly. Then give it a nice coat of matt black paint.
