Hello everyone. I have a V35 and I’m really puzzled. If I want to work with the colour module and set the gradation to 2.5, according to the table I should set it to 28Y + 56M. However, only 5-step increments are clearly marked on the colour mixing head. So from 0 to 200. I’m using the Foma Variant 3, and it only lists values for Kodak, Durst and Meopta. I think I read somewhere that you should use the Durst values for the colour mixing head. Oh, a multigrad head would be great. Perhaps someone could explain this to me. Best regards Dr Xaver

You only need to use both filters if you want to keep the exposure times constant when changing the gradation. Otherwise, one is enough. White light is grade 2; more yellow makes it softer, more magenta makes it a hardener. You’ll reach 2.5 at around 30 magenta. As long as you’re working with a test strip, the actual gradation doesn’t really matter. If the test strip is too soft, add more magenta and make a new test strip. If you’re using a lab exposure meter, you’ll need to calibrate each gradation individually, as different papers have different speeds and blackening characteristics. Otherwise, fork out the cash and have the head converted to a split-grade head at Heiland. Regards, Sven.

Thanks for now. I’ll give that a go then. I’d be interested to know how the values in the paper’s instruction booklet work. I mean, the exposure values? I’ve only just started developing photos. I used to just take simple snaps on the fly, but now, thanks to the prices, I’ve treated myself to something decent. Best regards, Sven

However, the table below that gives Leitz’s own values using the two-filter method (for Ilford Multigrade in each case).
