[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND] € We now have a good range of gradation with Multigrade, but the filter values are still outside the norm (in other words, our paper can be filtered from 1 to 5, but with different settings to other papers). The images shown are at the very hard and very soft filter settings – so none of the images are ‘good’ (normal). As you can easily see, the soft emulsion is veiled against the DUKA light (edge area). We also need to practise ‘pouring’ some more. The pour is anything but homogeneous (upper half of the image at soft) – but not too bad for the first steps in multi-layer pouring. So, in the near future, we need to improve our darkroom haze control, adjust the filter values and, on the side (more for the challenge), continue practising ‘pouring’. If nothing new comes up, that would be it for the Polywarmton. Then we could move on to the large casting machine, where experienced people would ultimately attach the hose. € I placed the images on the scanner and scanned them without any exposure or colour corrections.

Thanks for posting! Well, that sounds great. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you sort out the last few issues and end up with a Grade 5 on paper. € Fingers crossed! € PS: As colour reproduction on screen is always a bit of a tricky business: How would you rate the paper? I’m still dreaming of a brown-black. Oh, and do you plan to heat the substrate slightly (!), i.e. to colour it?

That is, of course, one of the main goals. Not a greenish-black like the Fomatone. That was one of the first major hurdles, but we managed to clear it in the very first year, even though it was very challenging. So challenging, in fact, that I can’t imagine anyone else managing it without completely overhauling their entire setup. … We’re keeping the original dyeing process, not least because the colorant made us all smile (unfortunately, it’s a trade secret licensed under an NDA, so you’re not allowed to share in the smile – just imagine if we were doing it with tea). … Best regards, … Mirko

Is there perhaps any news to report on progress (or even setbacks)? You always feel a bit lost without any information at all. After all that pointless ‘retro’ stuff that various suppliers are churning out left, right and centre, it’s certainly about time we gave the analogue community something actually useful. :)
