Following two years of losses (2011: €71 million, 2012: €9 million), Agfa posted a net profit of €49 million for the 2013 financial year. Microfilms for Kodak’s successor company are now also being produced at the Mortsel site in Belgium.
Although the company’s main activities have long since moved beyond photographic imaging – for example, into medical imaging and printed circuit boards – photochemical products (including X-ray films and films for the graphics industry, which remain in high demand in emerging Asian markets) still hold a firm place in the product range.
If film production as a whole remains profitable, this is certainly a good sign for the future of aerial and documentary films, which are of particular interest here.
