Fomapan 200 in Xtol 1+1

Hello everyone, What have your experiences been with Foma 200 Creative? [font=arial, helvetica, sans-seriI developed a roll of Fomapan in Xtol 1+1 for 8:30 and measured the curve. Hello everyone, ? I did a bit of experimenting today and found that Xtol doesn’t work very well, not even at a 1+2 ratio! ? But this worked well: D74 DC 1+15 (16 ml + 234 ml) Jobo 1510 Shaken 6 times in the first 30 seconds and then once every 30 seconds gamma 0.64 / 80 ASA ? Z4: 0.55 Z5: 0.74 Z6: 0.96 Z7: 1.18 Z8: 1.40 Z9: 1.60 Z10: 1.82 Best regards, Oliver

In my experience, Fomapan 200 in X-Tol (or its Foma equivalent, Excel) at a 1+2 ratio is not exactly a revelation when it comes to sharpness and fine grain. I can confirm from my enlargement work that the highlights are difficult to control. In D-76/ID-11 1+1, the tonal range was better, but the sharpness and fine grain were also only moderate. In Perceptol 1+1, by contrast, it produced excellent results, which I would rank close to Ilford Delta 100. My exposure was at 100 ISO. With no other film have I observed such a strong dependence of the overall photographic quality on the developer as with Fomapan 200. Regards tepe

? This is effectively an N+2 development (for subjects with low contrast). The curve is very straight, just as one usually wants it to be. You can achieve an N development (normal development) simply by shortening the development time. ? Best regards, Otto!

Best regards, Otto! € </div> </blockquote> € Good morning, I decided against shortening the development time, as with N+2 I only managed to achieve a true 100 ISO (but a really great curve, as if drawn with a ruler). I reckon I’ll end up at around 50 ISO with an N development. So I don’t need to buy any fiddly 200 film...? D74 1+15 worked on the first try and the curve fits quite well with my other ‘tools of the trade’ But that cost me a loss of 1 1/3 stops. I’ll be conducting exposure on a roll of film and printing it out over the next few days. Let’s see how the prints look. Best wishes, Oliver

If you are using an N+2 development process, shortening the development time does not result in any loss of effective speed for most films, so it is probably worth giving it a try. If you have tested an N development, further extending the development time generally does not improve effective sensitivity (density 0.1 above the fog). The only result is that the density of Zone 5 (to which the Beli is calibrated) is reached earlier, as the curve becomes steeper. This is then sold to the user as an ‘increase in speed’. Only when you shorten the development time starting from the N-development does the effective sensitivity drop for most films. Best regards, Otto!

Thanks for this important information. ? I had it in the back of my mind that the development time affects the speed, but I’d completely forgotten that maximum speed is reached with an N development. ? With N+1 / N+2, the density does increase, but the speed doesn’t go any higher. I’d completely forgotten that. ? Thanks ? Best regards, Oliver
