FranzO Hello, Up until now, I’ve always developed my pushed films (mostly Tmax 3200 or Tri-X) using fine grain developers (such as Kodak Tmax). I’d like to try a few tests with proper, rich coarse grain film. Which developers would you recommend? Best regards, Franz
michael-kielgmxnet Or a positive developer. I happened to come across an example of this: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/wolfgang.moersch/23433375
Bonderer I’d suggest having a look at the Spürsinn website; they have a special coarse-grain developer called DOM. I gave it a go and was very impressed with the results. Consistent grain across the board, but it doesn’t suit my style of photography, which is why I only used it for a short while. If you’d mentioned it sooner, I would have kept my last few test bottles – I threw them away a few weeks ago as they were just getting in the way. Otherwise, Rodinal at a 1:25 dilution and at least one dark yellow filter, or more. That should produce a rich grain, though personally I’d recommend <20 to =20. In my experience, the grain becomes a bit more even and doesn’t look quite so restless. But that’s a matter of personal preference.
