Does anyone know the Schneider Kreuznach Componon S 2.8/50mm? It’s the version with a plastic body, but without a backlit aperture scale.
I bought it second-hand; it has a slider on the side that lets you stop down by one stop, e.g. from 4 to 5.6. However, this doesn’t work very well, as you’re working close to the non-graduated aperture ring and so you usually end up adjusting it more than intended without looking.
What is the purpose of this little slider?
Does anyone have experience of macro photography with this close-up lens (in normal or retro position)? It has an M39mm thread – what else do you need technically to attach it to the camera? Is the quality worth it?

Set the aperture on the lens to f/22 and then move the slider. It should actually open the aperture fully (not just by one stop). The slider is designed to open the aperture for adjustment without changing the working aperture.
You’ll need a bellows and an M39 adapter – then you can take macro shots in the normal position, even beyond 1:1. The quality will be good, as it’s corrected for the short distance. You just need to check whether any stray light is getting in through the illuminated aperture ring (the colourful, illuminated aperture numbers under the magnifier) on the lens. If so, you might need to tape over the numbers.
