Hello,
A hardening agent added to the fixer – usually alum or formaldehyde – hardens the gelatin in the emulsion, not the support. It only makes sense when processing at high temperatures, but in that case you also need to add something to the developer, e.g. sodium sulphate. As cinema films are subjected to greater mechanical stress during transport, their support has also been hardened.

Hello Jochen,
€
With the Adox CHS series (old) and the Efke films, the aim is to ‘strengthen’ the emulsion.
This has a high speed when wet, although I’ve never had any problems with the emulsion.

The problem with Ralle’s “wobbly” film is probably more down to the 0.1 mm thick PET base on the CHS 100 KB.
