MCP 312 is now also available in A4 and 13x18 in packs of 25 sheets. We are gradually expanding the MCP range. New is the A4 size. 13x18 is now also available in packs of 25 sheets. Thanks to ADOX’s flexible in-house production, we can now make many things possible “through span”, which were not possible before. We also accept “custom size requests”. I think that’s a good idea. I’d like to suggest, though, whether it might be possible to produce square formats for medium format as well. As far as I know, these have only been available from wephota so far, and only on PE paper. Until now, you’ve always had to put up with quite a lot of waste when using 6x6 negatives, which is a shame.

? We can be flexible with cutting but not with coating. This applies to everyone. Coating a different product requires an investment of over €100,000. Cutting a different size requires an investment of around €250. ? Kind regards, ? Mirko

The thing is that the old, original MCP paper, produced by AGFA, was coated on a rather thick base, comparable to today’s Portfolio RC paper from Harman. It would be nice to have this thickness back because the print becomes quite fragile and can be easily bent once the size exceeds 18x24 cm. I have no idea what proportion of the actual production cost is accounted for by the paper alone versus the coating and silver/emulsion, but I would assume that there is a market for a heavier RC paper. € Thanks for commenting, Mirko

I agree. I’d also think a 30x30 version would be very useful. The two larger formats sound very interesting, though. € € I’d also like to see genuine 3:2 sizes, so that we have something for the 35mm format without any loss of quality.

There is no real need for square formats, as the part you would have to trim off can just as easily be removed from the sheet before exposure to make the test strips that are required anyway.

Hello everyone, ? Just a really silly question: why square paper and A4 paper, etc.? No matter what film format you use, the paper sizes never fit 100%, for whatever reason. The simplest solution would be to just offer raw material, as they did in the days of the printer. Then 4x4 and 6x6 fans could cut their own squares, and users of all sorts of panorama formats could trim the paper to size. And everyone else could print the whole negative to fill the page. ? Roll-form paper isn’t ideal for posting. It’s more of a hassle to keep it protected from light, and not everyone has a large enough cutting tool or enough space to cut the paper neatly from the roll. And there’s always some waste, of course. I think the current range is perfectly adequate.

Hi Tim, ? Roll-fed paper can be great if you have the right cassette. I was once offered one of these at a lab clearance sale but unfortunately turned it down because it was too big for me. Basically, it’s a light-tight box that holds the roll. You can then pull the paper out through a slot and trim it to the right size using various templates. It does have a certain charm. ? It’s also useful, of course, if you want to make really large prints. When my DeVere is fully extended, you get an image 150 cm wide beneath the machine. ? Regards, Sven.

Hi Tim, Of course we have a wide range of formats. I was thinking of all those who need a specific format, such as 4x4 and 6x6 prints, as well as all the medium-format photographers who want to fit the entire negative onto the print. And it’s obvious that you can’t print 6x7, 6x8 and 6x9 formats on the same sheet of paper without some cropping. And then there are all the different panorama formats. So I think it would be easier to use roll stock than to cut out everyone’s own individual format. And roll stock is particularly good if you’re short on space. I used to use it for the veeeery veeeery veeeery large pictures because I didn’t have room for the veeeery veeeery veeeery large developing trays, and as I didn’t want to mix up the chemicals by the hectolitre, I used plastic balcony planters. And so that I could pull the paper back and forth easily inside them, I used roll paper that I’d cut a bit longer so I could grip it properly. Regards, Achim

Hi Achim, I’ve got nothing against rolls, but just rolls wouldn’t be much use. I’ve got all the negative formats from 35mm to 4x5, but I always use the same three paper sizes. Anything that’s surplus to requirements gets trimmed off or ends up behind the mat. € Hi Sven, Yeah, it’s a nice bit of kit. But not everyone has the space to set it up, and the range of products on offer will probably be extremely limited. So it’s not really a practical solution. € Tim

I like square ones too – though I always use the residues for testing. So it’s no big deal
