Brille
Hello everyone.
First post and I’ve got a question straight away ;)
Can I leave my developers in the Duka in their containers (perhaps covered) and use them again next time? They’re supposed to change colour when they’re no longer usable, aren’t they?
Thanks so much for your help!

You should pour the developer into a bottle and even top up the fume cupboard. I don’t leave the fixer in the tray either, even though it doesn’t suffer any chemical damage: there’s always a risk of dirt falling into it, which then ends up on the prints.

When I take a two-hour break from the darkroom, I cover the developer and fixer. Otherwise, I always pour them back into the bottle.
I reuse the chemicals several times; usually up to the recommended usage limit or until I notice they’ve been used up. But I always do a quick test with the fixer beforehand.
When pouring it into the tray, I filter the chemicals through a fine wire mesh.

In the lab at the university where I’m studying, the chemicals are always kept in their containers, which are simply covered with a large ‘lid’. The fixer is only prepared once a term. It works quite well. The quantities and concentrations here are quite large, and they react unfavourably with the air.
