Hello, fellow lovers of analogue photography,
Having tested almost the entire range of warm-tone papers still available, I’ve now settled on ADOX Variotone. So far, there have been very few papers that have really
appealed to me. On the one hand, there was ORWO Baryt, which is unfortunately no longer available, but which I liked extremely well because of its warm tone and, above all, its non-pure-white base. On the other hand, I have performed a lot of processing with Fomatone MG right up until recently. The slight olive tone of the blacks, and in particular the colour of the paper base, did not seem to be to everyone’s taste. However, after sufficient washing, the Fomatone MG produces prints of outstanding quality. I have now finally tried the ADOX Variotone with ECO 4812 and am also very impressed with the tonal quality.
As there is so little mention of Variotone here in the forum, I wanted to ask who else is still using this paper and what your experiences with it have been.
Best regards
Dirk
