I’d give SPUR HRX or ADOX Atomal (Bergger 49) a go. ? ? Regards Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang, Thanks for the tip! I’ll give 12 minutes a go for my first attempt. I’m not familiar with the film yet, but I’m hoping it’s a bit like Neopan 400. I shoot 6x8 and 6x9. I’d like to focus more on sharpness and tonal gradation than on fine grain. It doesn’t necessarily have to be quite as coarse as with Rodinal. That’s why I wanted to try the FX-39, especially as it’s now my standard developer for medium format. That’s why the A49 would be a step in the wrong direction for me. The SPUR HRX is on my ‘blacklist’. I’ve tried it three times. All three times the developer was dead – possibly even when it was delivered. Hopefully the films will be delivered soon... Your Bergger film in FX-39 isn’t listed here, but this is a great way to see the differences between the various film and developer combinations: € http://www.fotoimport.no/filmtest/fkxtol.html € I think Atomal performs pretty well there. € The SPUR HRX has always given me excellent results. Or did you have the old version? The current developer is supplied in two parts and has a very good shelf life. € Best regards, Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang, Thanks for the link! I’ve had a look at the images, but in my experience, close-up enlargements like that are completely meaningless. I’ve made prints in 30x40 and simply looked at what I liked and what I didn’t. Fine grain developers, standard developers and very high-resolution films produced by far the worst results with medium format. My current favourite combination is FP4+ in FX-39. It used to be the Neopan 400. Perhaps the new Pancro 400 can take over that role. As far as I’m concerned, Spur is on the ‘blacklist’, meaning they won’t get another penny from me, no matter what they do. I’ve had the II and the III. No improvement whatsoever, and as I said, I’m not giving them any more money. Best regards Oliver
