Hello everyone,
I’m experiencing defects in my current film developments that I can’t explain. Here’s a photo. The film in question is Rollei RPX 400, exposed and developed at 1600 ISO according to the instructions using PXD developer. I’ve also developed a roll film at 1600 ISO. The defect is visible there too, but these bubbles are only visible at the edges. The same defects occur when I work at 800 ISO, but not as severely. What’s quite interesting is that these defects do not occur when I use a different developer. I have also processed three rolls of film at 250 ISO using the HRX-3 process.
I rule out limescale deposits from the water, as otherwise the films developed with HRX-3 would have to show the same defects.
Drying: First, remove the water with a film squeegee, then, after hanging the film up, gently dab it with a paper towel to remove the last few drops of water.
Could it be that PXD is subject to a ageing process that causes this? The bottle stood unopened in the cellar for about nine months.
Thanks for your suggestions
Guido

Hi Wolfgang,
I suppose I’m the last one to ask. My initial assumption is that it’s just a silly user error. But I can’t see what it is. That’s why I’m asking you – I’m sure others have had the same problems.
Best regards, Guido

An impression of the perforation is visible in the top right-hand corner. It is likely that the emulsion absorbed moisture before development and stuck to the next coil of film whilst being handled. On a hot
day, even skin moisture can be enough to cause the humidity to rise inside a sealed film bag.
The developer is unlikely to be the cause, as it would tend to affect the overall quality rather than produce such sharply defined marks.

Tepe

Good evening everyone,
I got a tip from another forum that the emulsion surface is very delicate. That explains the streaks caused by peeling it off. And it seems to be true. I’ve hung up two films to dry. The surface of both films is completely smooth.
Best regards,
Guido
