Hello everyone,
As part of my preparations for experimenting with emulsion, I wanted to have a little photo shoot in the studio with my Mamiya RB67.
?
The following equipment and settings were used.
?
- Hensel Porty 1200
- Sync cable (connected to the Porty and the lens)
- Shutter speed 1/250s
- Aperture as measured.
- Kodak Tri-X 400 film
?
With one of my lenses, the flash fired every time the cable was touched and also when I pressed the lever to wind the shutter. When taking photos, it sometimes didn’t fire at all.
With lens 2, no problems with the cable; the flash fired when taking photos.
?
After developing, the surprise. Apart from a single frame, the film was completely blank, or rather underexposed – so simply? Transparent.
What could be the reason for this? The settings? I didn’t change anything for this one frame either. Best regards and many thanks

Check whether the switch next to the synchronisation socket is set to X.

Yes, it was on X

Accidentally setting the camera to "Mirror Up" could also be the reason why the film is blank.
It is best to test the flash with the lens removed. So, with the flash attached, hold the lens in your hand and cock it (turn the two cams anti-clockwise until they click into place). Then release the lens manually (unlock the two cams and turn them slowly clockwise), looking through the lens to check whether the flash fires at the correct moment, i.e. when the shutter is open. You can also see this at 1/250 if you hold the rear lens close enough to your eye.
The flash must only fire during the open phase of the shutter; otherwise, there is a fault. The lens must then be opened and the fault investigated.

Wolfgang, thanks for your reply; I’ll give that a go straight away today …
