Hello everyone.
In this post, I’d like to hear your views on assessing the effectiveness of a negative developer (one that has been sitting for a while, for example) based on the density of the photographic paper.
So, I would first create a reference sample: I expose a very specific type of paper (I am willing to tolerate [minor] batch variations) with a very specific amount of white light (measured with a lab exposure meter). I would then develop this strip of photographic paper in the respective fresh developer at a very specific mixing ratio and for a precisely defined time, etc. I would keep this (grey) piece of photographic paper and then always compare it with the one I produce anew whenever I have doubts as to whether the developer is still working properly. The density should then be approximately the same.
This test should be very quick to carry out (before developing the negatives). What do you think?
