Hello,
I’m a bit surprised that Silvermax developer is now only available in 100 ml bottles. These small bottle sizes work out at €83 per litre, which I think is very expensive.
The Adox website and the developer’s data sheet still list the 50 ml and 250 ml sizes as available options.
Is there a reason why only such small sizes are available now?

Well, at 100ml, it works out at about 58 cents per film, compared to 46 cents for the 250ml bottle.
?
The 100ml bottle is enough for 12 films and costs €7.00 (excl. VAT).
The 250ml bottle was enough for 30 films and cost €13.99.
?
Unfortunately, chemicals are still often undervalued. A lot of specialised development work is included in the price here to tailor the chemicals to the film type.
?
Is it really worth thinking twice about this for the sake of 12 cents per film and possibly using a different chemical?
?
We’ve changed this because we’ve had the 100ml bottles specially produced using a different plastic blend that provides almost as good an oxygen barrier as glass. This also helps the chemicals keep better. If you only had to discard a small portion of the old, larger bottle, the maths simply doesn’t add up anymore.
?
However, if we generate more revenue from the chemicals in future, we’d be happy to consider having the 250ml bottles produced accordingly.
Given the cost of filling them, it makes no difference to us either way :-)
?
500ml would also be conceivable, but given the price of the bottles, I can’t see much potential for sales.
?
Best regards,
?

The point about the bottle material makes sense, and the small quantities are certainly settled more quickly. What’s the point of larger containers if they then have to be disposed of in the shop?
And the chemicals aren’t that expensive either. The average hobbyist won’t be involved in large-scale processing. That’s certainly the case for me. I do lots of different things in the lab, but all in small quantities.
