Hi everyone,
I’ve got a bottle of Tetenal Ultrafin Plus developer that’s still in its original packaging. It looks like it’s from around 2000, though. Is there any way I can check if it still works?

Hi Jolle,
The safest method is to develop a test roll. Depending on the camera, you can also expose just part of a roll and use the residue for further shots.
With XTOL, I always dip a small piece of film into the solution before the development to check for any sudden failure, especially with solutions that have been left standing for a while. I’m not sure if that will be enough for your situation.
As the shelf life depends heavily on storage conditions (a cool cellar vs. under the roof in summer), I would under no circumstances expose an important roll of film to an ‘unknown’ developer without testing it first.
