Hi everyone. I’m a bit confused: I’m interested in Ilford’s “Perceptol”. During the winter months, I’d like to use it as a diluted single-use developer at a ratio of 1:3 for my 35mm Tri-X film (set to 200 ISO, I know). Now, if the catalogue says: stock solution for a 1-litre batch – how much of this stock solution will I actually receive by post? Because it doesn’t mention what mixing ratio this “1-litre batch” refers to. I’d really like to know how many 35mm films I can develop one after the other in my canister per pack of stock solution. Perceptol is a powder developer. This is a good thing, as metol developers have a short shelf life once dissolved. Once opened, solutions must either be used up very quickly, decanted into smaller bottles, or at least topped up with water.

You’ll end up with one litre of stock solution, just as it says. The powder comes in two sachets (A and B). So take about 750 ml of warm water, add sachet A and stir until the powder has completely dissolved. Then stir in sachet B until everything has dissolved. After that, top up with water to make a litre. You now have the stock solution from which you can make your 1+3 dilution. For example, 100 ml stock solution + 300 ml water. Best regards, Wolfgang

Oh, great! So it works on the same principle as the ID11. Thanks for the quick replies! I didn’t know it was a powder developer, but that doesn’t bother me.
